Adolescent Counseling Services offers a variety of clinical training opportunities to a full spectrum of mental health trainees, practicum students and interns at our ACS Institute of Psychotherapy & Training. We are a member of the Bay Area Practicum Information collaborative (BAPIC) and are in the process of applying to be a California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC) site. ACS provides professional training to MFT trainees, Social Work trainees, and Doctoral level practicum students, as well as offering opportunities for post-degree staff positions.
Our training program is currently in the process of evolving to be a nationally recognized training program for students interested in developing expertise in working with Adolescents. We provide an organized professional training providing supervised clinical supervision in a variety of settings including schools, outpatient clinics, and intensive outpatient settings. We encourage each student to build culturally and ethically appropriate competence in assessment, treatment planning, psycho-education and treatment of adolescents and their families.
Our training year begins in August of each year and ends in the summer of the following year. Exact dates depend on the program. We provide weekly supervision from a pool of supervisors with extensive experience working with adolescents. We also provide weekly didactic trainings on a variety of topics related to adolescents in general as well as related to your program specific needs.
Our unique knowledge in regards to working with adolescents, LGBTQIA+ youth and substance abuse issues make ACS a regionally unique training setting. Students are encouraged to stay at ACS for more than one year to gain experience within another ACS program towards developing extended expertise in working with today’s adolescents.
