Dr. Philippe Rey Recognized as a Mover and Shaker Community Hero by the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Board
The Executive Director of ACS will be honored for his innovative work addressing the mental health needs of the community
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Dr. Philippe Rey, Executive Director of Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS), a community-based nonprofit agency dedicated to the healthy social and emotional welfare of local youth, was named a Mover and Shaker Community Hero by the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Board and will be honored in a ceremony on May 2nd, 2018. Community Hero Awards are reserved for leaders who have made an extraordinary difference in the lives of people facing behavioral health challenges. As a Mover and Shaker, Dr. Rey was selected because of his collaborative and innovative initiatives in meeting the mental health needs of the local community.
Dr. Philippe Rey was born in Switzerland and dedicated his life to adolescent mental health after witnessing his own family struggle with substance misuse and mental health issues. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology with a concentration in child and family therapy at Alliant International University in San Diego. Dr. Rey recently celebrated twenty years at ACS, where he’s committed to breaking the stigma of mental health issues and being a beacon of hope for local teens and families who need ACS’ services.
“I’m able to go to sleep at night knowing that each day, a young life became better because they found ACS. I wake up every day with the energy and passion to fight for the youth who have no voice, see no future, feel less than, or are thrown away because I, and everyone at ACS, have experienced similar hard times and understand how critical a welcoming, supportive face can be.” Dr. Rey recently stated, “I want everyone to know, ‘We have been there. We are here with you. Hang on one more day because your life is worth it!”‘
Dr. Rey will be recognized at the 7th Annual SCC Behavioral Health Board Community Heroes Awards Ceremony and luncheon at the San Jose Masonic Center on May 2nd, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., alongside nine other honorees. “Our heroes have performed tirelessly in their efforts to improve the lives of those they serve,” said Gary Miles, Chair of the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Board. “We invite the community to join us for the awards ceremony in May as we celebrate and recognize the heroes whose efforts improve the quality of life for our residents.”
